Re: promotion updates
It is also interesting to note that kings lynn town is now only one point ahead of long buckly who have a game in hand.Should they long buckly win the league they can not be promoted as their ground has failed the grading.Even if we win tuesday the club should stress and advertise in the media that saturdays game is for a promotion spot just to add numbers to the gate

Typey wrote:As things stand, I think we need 4 points to be guaranteed promotion - this will give us a ppg of 2.20, while Gresley can only (at best) get a ppg of 2.19.
Of course, if Dunstan of the Northern League fail to win their league (currently 4th, 8 points off the league, with 2 games in hand - 4 games left in total, all away) - all the ppg becomes immaterial as both us and Gresley will be promoted, if we both win our leagues, of course!
Of course, results over the course of this week can affect all of this, but worst case, 4 points will seal promotion!
Whilst I've been a critic of this detailed analysis in the past , I feel the time is right, given the little amount of games left for all promotion candidates, for us to all be fully aware of points attainment required for promotion. If I've got it wrong, please feel free to correct me!!!
Given that of the 14 feeder leagues one has already produced no eligible team and another has produced a runner up that meets the ground grading Merthyr, given +63 goal difference should now be able to qualify for promotion with 2 points from 2 games or take the 3 points from one of the remaining two games would achieve the same without the goal difference element.
There are many ways promotion could be achieved.
WW WL or DD will do it. Bitton have to win their game of course, if Bitton draw then Merthyr could well win the league with LL on goal difference alone- indeed that would be likely given such a scenario as the gap in goal difference should, for any practical purposes, be unbridgeable off the cricket or rugby pitch.
Best scenario is a midweek win for us that doesn't take it to the wire natch.
Re: promotion updates
Apologies there, I seem to have overlooked Dunstan who are still in with a shout. In fact I am finding this Northern League- no eligible club bit a little confusing to be honest.
Re: promotion updates
There is no eligible club in the northern league at the moment because dunstan are not in the top three. This is just a matter of time but they have a bit of work to do to win the games in hand and win the league

Re: promotion updates
Lots can still happen, but as of now, Monday night we need 4 points to guarantee promotion.
However long Buckby can win their remaining two games and win the UCL league and that will move Kings Lynn below us as they will only be runners up. One win will be enough for us if that happens.
Gresley could lose to Willenhall and that would mean a win at wells would see us up . Willenhall only have 13 points all season and are 29 points behind the team above them. So don't hold your breath.
The most likely thing we can hope for on tuesday is; Merthyr win, west Auckland win and Dunstan fail to win. Merthyr are up.

Re: promotion updates
Yes, I overlooked the Long Buckby situation. Kings Lynn may finish second with 106 points, that's mad!!!
Agree, West Auckland winning at Whitley Bay tomorrow will virtually put Dunstan out of it.
All we can do is grind out the three points we need at Wells to be crowned champions - Up the Town!!!

Promotion Updates
So as I understand it, Long Buckby and West Auckland just need to win their final game to win the title and, if either of them achieve this, Merthyr simply need to win the league in order to gain promotion. Things seem to be on the verge of working out elsewhere to ensure that PPG doesn't come into play, which is good news.
Ilfracombe on Saturday to finish it then!

Re: promotion updates
Tonight's Sussex League result:-
Three Bridges 2 Peacehaven 2
So the Sussex League comes down to the last game Three Bridges v Rye United. Winner takes the title. If Rye win, Bridges will probably finish third as Lancing (who's ground has been rejected by the Ryman for lack of outside toilets) will overtake them with a win.
Rye won the Cup Final tonight but are still playing like shit compared to when they stuffed Bridges 4-0 early in the season.
Apparently/allegedly/whatever, the Bridges manager got sent off for head-butting a Peacehaven player. Come on you Quarterboys. Forza Martyrs...........

To be honest. if either West Auckland or Long Buckby get a point Saturday, they should win their league as they have vgood GD - we'll be promoted - as long as we win the league of course!
Saying that, Dunstan are playing Thursday - if they fail to win, we'll go into Saturday's game needing a win for the title AND promotion - all looking very healthy for the Martyrs!!!

This has been updated already - we sit nicely in the 10th promotion spot - interestingly, as things stand, King's Lynn would access the 12th promotion spot as best runner up on ppg!

Re: promotion updates
Here is the low down on tomorrow. We need...
1 - a Merthyr win
2 - a win for ONE of the following teams ..... West Auckland, Spennymoor, Rye or Long Buckby.
If that happens we will get promoted to the Southern League South West division and Pol Pot will be a very happy despot.

Cheers for making it clear.
I know you all on here have good intentions but reading through the articles on here regarding our promotion has been driving me nuts lately. Given me a right headache.
At least we are all concerned with being at the nicer end of the table.

Re: promotion updates
Like us, Spenny have come back from the brink. Classic old ground surronded by houses (remind you of anywhere?) I hope they can do us a favour. A mile or so from my mother-in-law!Pol Pot wrote: Spennymoor
Difficult ground to find (decent pub at the end of the road). Old style cow-gates let the players on the pitch. Tough side though. Once was there pre-season when a fight broke out about the cost of entry (£3!) - I'll give them a few more quid pre-season if they do us a favour!Pol Pot wrote:West Auckland

Re: promotion updates
According to the following report they've given up on the idea of rearranging things so there would be only 12 leagues feeding the 12 promotion places instead of 14. Instead, there are going to be 14 clubs relegated - the Ryman Isthmian League are taking the hit, with 3 clubs going down from each of their two regional division instead of 2. Each division is to be increased to 24 clubs to make up for this.
Anyway, lets hope we don't have to worry about this again!

Re: promotion updates
With the Southern Premier increasing from 22 to 24 clubs in the 13/14 season, maybe there'll be an extra promotion place up for grabs in both the South/West and Midland divisions. There could be 6 promotion places (3 fom each league) - presumably 2 automatic and 1 via play offs. This assumes 4 will be relegated from the Premier.
Alternatively, they may keep 2 promotion spots from both feeder league, and just relegate 2 sides.
A hat trick of promotions for the Town - what's the odds, eh?

I suspect that the Premier Division sides would vote for only 2 teams to be relegated.Typey wrote:With the Southern Premier increasing from 22 to 24 clubs in the 13/14 season, maybe there'll be an extra promotion place up for grabs in both the South/West and Midland divisions. Not sure if the club's all have equal voting rights but both the Central and South/West Division clubs would be voting for 6 promotion places.
The League AGM could be interesting this year!
