MERTHYR TOWN V BARRY TOWN (WELSH CUP) SAT 1ST OCT 2011

The Martyrs face old rivals Barry Town at Penydarren Park this coming Saturday 1st October 2011, kick off 3pm..

This is a another big game for the Martyrs as our quest for domestic honours contine.

The Candac Suite will be open from 12noon, with SKY TV to show all the days live footballing action (including Everton v Liverpool 12.45kick off)..

Barry will bring a few supporters I am sure, so lets make sure we turn out in force to back the lads after a superb performance midweek.

I don't know what sort of attendances Barry Town have these days.
A few years ago when they were playing at Troedyrhw, a car-load of fans stopped me and asked the way to The Willows!

I'm quite looking forward to this.

May the best Town win and we all know which that is!

I went to see Penrhiwceiber Rangers vs Barry about a twelve month or so ago, for that game they seemed to bring about a coach load, maybe a few more. They seemed to far outnumber the home support at the Glasbrook. The match itself was no thriller, Ceiber about matched them on the day, but I am sure that far more Barry fans attended the more interesting fixtures with teams at the other end of the table.

I forgot to include a mention of this in the match programme, but as with the previous round the tie will be decided on the day with extra time and penalties if necessary. There will be no replay.

It will be interesting to see the gate today. Will the sun and the prospect of reviving the Merthyr v Barry relationship boost the crowd? Or will the sun take people elsewhere?
Let's hope that the trend is bucked on the lower gates the Cup games have resulted in this season.

It's a no brainer sunbathing on the beach in Barry with an icecream or football in MERTHYR! Merthyr for me.

Attendance of 435 was very good, with quite a few from Barry. After that display it's a good job it's 3 weeks to the next home game.

Decent weather..., local derby..., Why oh why do we always implode...?

I hope the Management take a long, hard look at some of the squad members today. And perhaps some of their selections.

For the avoidance of doubt, this is certainly not the start of a Shephard out campaign - no matter what some of my texters say!
