Merthyr v Chesham United
Merthyr lost their second home game in five days by the same score - 1-0.
It was a brave, battling performance against a skilful Chesham side, considering Merthyr's team problems. There were five on the injured list, including Frazer Thomas, who needs treatment for his hamstring problem but was on the bench with Will Fuller (goalkeeper), Craig Reddy (coach), Academy player Dylan Dinham, and forward Craig Norman, the latter the only one to come on. Jack Evans was also missing and will be for a while because of work duties. And Abu Sama was recalled from loan at Taffs Well only for the deal not to go through in time for today.
Bradley Clayton got the only goal- after 41 minutes. A couple of nervous moments for Chesham almost led to a Merthyr goal earlier on.
The visitors were well-organised as befits their third position. Merthyr did the best they could but were unable to earn a point and so fell to their eighth home league defeat this season.
With two more tough away trips in a week, Merthyr's hopes of possibly making the play-offs have received a big blow.
Another good crowd- 647- got behind the team. But this was the eighth home league loss of the season.
Andrew Smith, Merthyr assistant manager, said he was proud of the players going toe to toe with a side near the top of the table, considering all their injuries. Merthyr weren't quite creating the out and out chances. The players who came in did well. There was a long way to go this season with a lot of games to play.He expected Sama to be in the squad for Tuesday. James Duncan, Chesham joint manager, said it was a good result after a long trip. Merthyr did well to limit the scoring chances for Chesham. It was a great finish for the goal.
