Taken from GloucestershireLive:-

"Goalkeeper Cameron Clarke has left Cinderford Town to rejoin Southern League Premier Division club Merthyr Town.

The Foresters recently brought in former Cheltenham Town youth team stopper Joe Perry.

Clarke has therefore decided to move back to a club located only 15 minutes from his home in Pontypridd.

“I'm happy to be back at Merthyr,” Clarke said. “When I left back last season I also wished I had the chance to go back one day.

“I have really enjoyed my time at Cinderford and it's a great club.

“The fans welcomed me great and I can't thank them enough for the enjoyable times I've had there.

“On that note I would like to thank the management and the lads for my time there.

“I wish them all the success in the season ahead and I hope they push up the table and get in the top half where they belong.”

Merthyr have been hit by major financial problems which have seen most of the senior first team players depart this week, including former Cheltenham Town midfielder Eliot Richards, who has joined Hereford.

“Merthyr are going through a tough time at the moment,” Clarke said.

“Gavin Williams (manager) has explained everything to me, but playing football for money means nothing to me.

“I just want to be out there playing games. No doubt it's going to be really tough times there at the moment but I would love to help them fix all the problems by winning games and doing things right on the pitch.

“A lot of the players have left so I've heard, but I've also been told and heard there is some lads staying also.

“Merthyr is a great club to play for with the games I played going back to last season I really enjoyed it.

“The fans are great and I have no doubt with all the problems going on there right now they will come out in numbers and get behind the players and management and get the club back up there.”

Clarke was at Cardiff between the ages of eight and 16 before spending a year at Hereford and then joining Bristol Rovers.

He has also represented Wales at Under-16 and Under-17 level.

I think Gavin could eventually make a strong squad that will play for the badge. Before they get any match allowance. Some good young players in Welsh league could come in and help the squad.

Well that is good news.

I think I have found my sponsored shirt for next season then.

It may need a bit of taking out at the seams but.....
