Paul Giles led his Rhoose team to promotion

Rhoose have achieved MacWhirter Welsh League status for the first time.

Goals from Drew Fahiya and Nick Davison gave Paul Giles’ team a 2-0 win against Sully Sports in the South Wales FA play-off final at Bryntirion.

More than 300 spectators watched the South Wales Amateur League champions make sure of promotion to Welsh League Division Three – and Rhoose have signed an agreement to play at Jenner Park for the next five years.

Sully’s best chance came when the score was still goalless and centre-forward Gareth Hemmens ran clear only to be denied by Rhoose keeper Barrie Niblett.

Davison netted the first goal after good work by James Dixon and Fahiya doubled the lead from a Liam Jones pass with 20 minutes left.

While Giles and his Rhoose team celebrated, South Wales Senior League champions Sully Sports suffered a second successive play-off defeat.

They were beaten by Llantwit Major in the South Wales promotion play-off a year ago.

Rhoose FC: B Niblett, C Green, O Dalton, J Carpetier, M Phillips (capt), L Jones, M Maddar, J Hinds, J Dixon, D Fahiya, N Davison. Subs: D Stephenson, S Anstee, J Reffell, C McLaggon, M Davies.
