FOOTBALL CLUB PAYS FOR FANS' MINIBUS
From The Telford Journal
AFC Telford United bosses have rewarded the loyalty of their fans by
stumping up the cost of a minibus. Sixteen fans paid for their own bus and
took it in turns to drive more than 200 miles to Gateshead to watch the
Bucks play on Saturday. The club was so thrilled by their loyalty bosses
decided to reimburse them for their travelling expenses, which could total
GBP300 to GBP400. AFC Telford chairman Lee Carter said: "It was our first
point at Gateshead in seven years." Mr Carter said it was a real 'backs
against the wall kind of day' but the club drew 1-1. He said: "We have had
an official supporters' away travel club for about eight years but there was
not enough interest in the Gateshead match. However 16 members managed to
get a minibus and we will cover the cost. Paul Palin, who runs the
supporters' away travel club, said it was a fantastic gesture by the club.
"My heart has soared hearing that they are to reimburse the fans." Mr Palin,
from Trench, said: "Some die-hard fans made the effort to go, and I wish I
had gone now."
