Re: Review of 2011
Jeez, this is degenerating into a beardy love in. Look folks, any band with more keyboards than members plus a gong is not clever. It really isn't. This is more like it....
The mix of music and football is a potent one, but when your taste in music is complimented by a model of Stonehenge that is in danger of being crushed by a dwarf then that will not do at all

Not a bad call. However, check out possibly the greatest song ever, from with without doubt is the greatest ever debut album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5jaRipA5_M
Brilliant gig - from what I remember of it. Shame Dennis Stratton had left. Di'anno (!) also didn't have long left!
And yto finish, couple from the joint greatest live albums ever:

Wheel full circle: Judas Priest named after a Bob Dylan song!

Prefered the B-side, one of my fave by em:
Sham 69 , ACAB, Angelic Upstarts, Fugazi, Dexy's, The Beat, ska, post punk, soul, etc...
You're alright, Mountain Ash!

Top Tune! We are up here for match day so the music is on. As always, kicking off with Searching For The Young Soul Rebels and playing through the era, usually at some point taking in some Stereolab for a diversion into something more modern.

Marxist pop, anyone?!Mountain Ash wrote:Top Tune! We are up here for match day so the music is on. As always, kicking off with Searching For The Young Soul Rebels and playing through the era, usually at some point taking in some Stereolab for a diversion into something more modern.
Not many breezy tunes start with such catchy lyrics as: "It's alright because the historical pattern has shown how the economical cycle tends to revolve, in a round of decades three stages stand out in a loop - a slump, a war, then peel back to square one and back for more."

"If anyone wants to get mellow they can get the **** outta here..."! Priceless.Bought "Intensities in Ten Cities" in Hong Kong: "Put up or Shut up" still remains a favourite to this day.Tim Drummond wrote:Van Halen!!! What about Ted Nugent!!!Yip, me too. They were the dogs watsits with Dave Lee Roth fronting. All went wrong when Sammy Hagar took over - he should have stuck with Montrose. Even when Roth came back it wasn't the same.... And I maintain Mötley Crüe would never have made it without them...Bristol Martyr wrote:Van Halen's first album is one of the great debut albums of all time. Saw them in Bristol supporting Black Sabbath and they blew Sabbath offstage.
I'll have to dig out my vinyl copy of 'Double Live Gonzo' and give it another spin. some classic quotes from the Nuge on that one. I've seen him live a few times and found him rather boring. But as I said, great stuff on the albums. Can't make the match today coz of friggin' work but let's hope for three points!

At their best I adore Stereolab, at their most indulgent I find them frustrating.Emperor Tomato Ketchup remains a pre match fave here though.
This had an outing this morning though, to break the usual soul/ska stuff I had on...
