Scott Barrow signs

Scott Barrow has signed for the club.

Gavin has made the point that the signing may be short term due to Scott's desire to return to full-time football but nevertheless a good signing ahead of the season opener saturday.

Good news - let's hope it's not too short a term.

Not having seen any of the friendlies was just wondering what position does he play in?

Left back, although apparently he could play in midfield.

As said elsewhere he played for National League side Eastleigh in their friendly last Monday night and there's one or two interesting comments on their equivalent of this forum:

'Are we going to sign that left back who played at Gosport then? According to some who saw the game he is a player of some quality so why haven't we snapped him up if he's supposed to be that good? Do we have cover for Green?'

Apparently Eastleigh's manager has since said they already have two left backs with another player able to fill in in that position so no-one else was being signed just now, although things could change through the season as there are no longer transfer window restrictions in their league.

Follow-up postings include:

'I thought Barrow was good but you have to be exceptional to get into Eastleigh this season and in fairness it would be hard to make a call from the Gosport friendly.'

'Gosport gave us a far better game and a far sterner test than both Barnet & Northampton did & Barrow not only dealt with everything defensively, his attacking play and even more impressively, his distribution of the ball, were first class. He got up and down the pitch just like Green does, but I felt maybe looked slightly better defensively aware than Green is.'

Commenting that Eastleigh's current second choice left back is being sent out on loan: '...I'm not sure why he is being sent out on loan. Howells cannot play left back, he's been poor there, that's not his strength. Yes he can "fill in", but why have "fill in" players when you can sign a Scott Barrow who will do the job properly and perhaps even enhance what we already have?'

Positive signing let's be a bit selfish and hope he stays with us,i think he would be good for us at full back or midfield.
