Good to see Andrew Thomas still involved with the club, reports that he has lost weight and looking fit can only be good news for Martyrs fans.

Game
All credit to the Penydarren lads they played some lovely football at times and deserved to be in front in first half.
The two Merthyr sides the possibles and the probables took advantage of superior fitness but for an hour the Penydarren boys did their club proud.
Mattie Harris as usual covered more ground than Google Earth.

I agree, the lad in midfield was also impressive, I believe him to be Christian Davies

Yes, No 8 was Christian Davies. He played for Troedyrhiw before the South Wales Amateur club folded. His father Mike still plays in goals in Veterans football.

Also thought the young lad at full back for penydarren has great potential. He needs to build himself up a bit in structure and he will be a very good player.

Mclaggon has to be included in the starting line up in my opinion.Agree with the midfield but cutlan would be my choice in goal.Traylor needs to come in somewhere alternating with ceri perhaps

Tom Bradley has got a lot to prove if he is to beat Giles to the No.1 jersey

Lets be honest penydarren had a young side out plus a few players on holidays etc,but if you look at the 90mins they spent most of the game in their own half.Good session for us to have couple of going pointers for the manager to consider.

Former Merthyr player Luke Jones played in midfield for them unless I am wrong

With respect I disagree, it was encouraging to hear a goalkeeper organising and talking to the defenders all the time, and as a result they were much more relaxed and able to concentrate on their main jobs of defending. He has played for Motherwell and spent a season with AFC Telford as their 1st choice Keeper before deciding to return Home, so he has good credentials.

Re: Penydarren 1-3 Merthyr Town
Yeah I agree he has got the credentials but he hasn't shown a lot in pre-season, nor has Giles. Both keepers haven't had a lot to do in fairness so it will be interesting to see what happens with the goalkeeping position ahead of next season.Dav1950 wrote:Jak_98 wrote:Tom Bradley has got a lot to prove if he is to beat Giles to the No.1 jersey

My starting line up would be gilo. Willo green Wright rewbs. Gavin traylor Kerry adie Harris (leeky work permitting)if not Newman kayne subs Corey tubbs prosser Marcus Marty carnt believe marcogilo would leave 30 plus goals out in traylor and kayne

Ian Traylor and Kayne McLaggon are guarantees for the starting XI next season in my opinion with all the goals they scored last season, so would Kris Leek, of course work permitting

And Ryan Prosser scored 26 goals last season as well. Difficult choices! (Or a strong squad).

We'll have to wait and see until we know which players have actually signed.
Yes, Luke Jones did play for Penydarren.

Where is the information about him being first choice at Telford? All I can find from the Internet is that he was with Motherwell without playing in the first team, and then joined Aberdare Town in October 2012:
http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/aberdaretownfc/s/the-team-23434.html?player_id=1066322
A Tom Bradley is on record as making just 3 appearances for Telford at the end of the 2012/13 season, but he is said to have been a midfield player (and younger).

A bit early to be selecting starting line ups, we all have our favourites so I would have to include Ryan Prosser in mine! I agree more or less with Tomboy's selection.

I think a 4-2-3-1 formation would be our best formation

Apologies for not replying earlier, I was given the info at last nights game, if it's incorrect I apologise, but person who supplied the info seemed 100% sure!!
I like Cliffyboy think it's to early to be picking sides for the start of the season, my gut feeling is there may well be a few more surprise departures and arrivals before 9/8.
