WITH just seven games remaining, Merthyr Town boss Garry Shephard believes another three wins and the Western Division One title and promotion to the Premier League will be theirs.
Merthyr travel to bottom club Elmore tomorrow after racking up 23 goals in their last five games and conceding just one in the process with Shephard insisting that the club win the silverware in style.
“The lads have worked really hard over the last month or so,” said Sheppard.
“We have scored 96 goals – and could pass the 100 mark this weekend – and only conceded 29 goals in 29 games so it’s not bad.
“Another three wins should do it, but people tell me that we could get promotion a week on Friday because all the chasing pack play each other over the next couple of weeks so promotion could all be wrapped up by then.
“But it’s what we do that is key to winning the title and going up with all guns blazing.
“That would be a real fillip for the club and the supporters, who over recent years have had more bad times then good, so let’s do it with some panache.
“Obviously the lads can see the finishing line now and any dip in form would be disappointing. It’s how we want to finish now.”
Shephard picks from a fully-fit squad which has won 23 out of 29 games to date, against a club which is rooted to the bottom of the table, and have only won five out of 27.
