You can have a lift on my 4 year old nephews nursery school trip bus if you like, even providing the flags.

Re: Republican Protest - Merthyr Tydfil
* The money being wasted on a pointless, PR exercise, visit.
* The anti democratic nature of monarchy.
* The cost to the taxpayer of financing the royals every year.
* The Crown Estates. Land that reaps huge financial rewards for one little family, that should be in public ownership, for the benefit of everyone.
* The fact that we are all expected to celebrate this jubilee (turn the tv/radio on,read newspapers), when in fact the Royal family are/should be completely irrelevant to "modern Wales".
Just a few for this time of morning.

Scrap the monarchy?
Were the 2 arrests in Merthyr yesterday for public order offences related to the protest or were they for something else?
If the country did get rid of the monarchy and sell off all their land it would only be people as rich or richer than the royal family who could afford to buy it anyway. I can't see any government selling the land to developers or housing associations for a low price to build the social housing that's needed. The land would end up being country estates for the elite.
Not sure how much the royal family cost the country but they do pay taxes and probably bring in a lot of tourism income (not to Wales though).

Both arrests were at the protest, in Cyfartha Park. One was arrested after protest for trying to go to a toilet. And the other was because the officer "believed" he was going to cross the barrier towards the royal car. First person was released last night. Second person was seen in court (conveniently) this afteroon around the time Mrs Windsor was leaving the country.
