No Jarrad Wright in the squad although he was there.
We had an early opening after Ashley Evans broke up a King’s Lynn attack. A long cross-field ball found Kayne McLaggon on the left of the area but his shot was blocked.
After about 10 minutes King’s Lynn broke down their left and Adam Davies was beaten but recovered to get in a tackle with the referee saying he won the ball amidst appeals for a penalty. I for one was relieved to see him wave play on!
King’s Lynn then had a spell on top, looking dangerous going forward, and on about 24 minutes the nearest to a goal in the match so far came when an attacker ran free into the area on the left but Oliver Davies came out well to block his shot. A couple of minutes later we came close ourselves with a 20-yard shot which the King’s Lynn keeper held under the bar at the second attempt.
The game was looking as though it could go either way, and it went King’s Lynn’s after about 35 minutes. A free kick a good 25 yards out went past the two-man wall and beat Oliver Davies’s dive to go inside the near post. But we replied almost immediately when Scott Barrow put over a cross for Ian Traylor at the far post to head the ball back across goal and into the net.
The goal lifted us and we were all over King’s Lynn for the rest of the half, with a great 25-yards shot from Eliot Richards that brought an equally fine flying save from the keeper.
With us looking good the break came at the wrong time for us, as we started the second half looking rather lacklustre and it was not until about the 62nd minute that we caused King’s Lynn any trouble, with the ball headed off the line after a good cross by Scott Barrow.
After about 70 minutes Ryan Prosser was replaced by Corey Jenkins, Kayne McLaggon moving into the middle.
King’s Lynn were close after about 75 minutes when a long free kick went all the way across the area with an attacker just unable to get a touch on it. We made another change about a minute later with Kyle Copp on for Eliot Richards in midfield.
We went looking for the winner in the closing stages, and with about 5 minutes to go a typically speedy run down the left by Corey Jenkins saw him put the ball across the area. But it was taken away from Kyle Copp by Ian Traylor who tried to get in a left-foot shot but was crowded out. In another good move a couple of minutes later Kyle Copp played Kayne McLaggon in on the right of the area for him to pull the ball back, but when Scott Barrow’s shot came in it was saved by the keeper.
But King’s Lynn were not out of it yet, and almost stole the win from another free kick, this time from even further out, and the same player again sent it past the end of the wall for it to come back off the foot of the post.
There was time for us to have a free kick of our own, which Kyle Copp sent a couple of feet over the bar.
Well, never a good time to play a team when they’ve just lost 6-1 at home as they’re always liable to pull themselves together and put in an improved performance which was evidently the case with King’s Lynn tonight, and I don’t think there have been very many better teams to visit Penydarren Park this season. Having said that, we were often not at our best, with some disappointing errors at times in most parts of the field. You could say we ought to have won, as we certainly gave their goalkeeper more to do than Oliver Davies, but a lot of our efforts on goal were disappointingly tame, especially in the second half. The last ten minutes or so of the game really summed it up as it could have gone either way and I wasn’t too unhappy about coming away with a draw in the end.
Man of the match for me was Scott Barrow who showed his class with the numerous left wing crosses he got in, sometimes from very tight situations, and was as close as anyone to scoring.
With Banbury’s game with Chesham being abandoned because of fog we stay in 4th place. Also a welcome result was Frome losing to Kettering.

Overall a disappointing performance on a cold night, grateful for a point in the end.

Young Copp played ok when he came on and could be an asset.
