FA Vase this weekend
Just looking at the fixtures for this weekend and I notice that three of Merthyr's top of table rivals are in FA Vase action. Good luck to all three: Willand, Larkhall and Bitton. I am particularly going to keep an eye on the Bitton result as it seems they have drawn against West Auckland Town who are current holders of the Thomas Lipton Trophy, the first world cup, that was made famous by the drama A Captain's Tale and a film I watched recently for the first time in many years on youtube.
You can watch the full movie here:
or, and I am not sure I should be telling you this, but you can download this film using the keepvid site here:

It's a 1959 film starring John Gregson, Peggy Cummins and Donald Sinden, from a novel of the same name by Richard Gordon, who wrote the Doctor in The House books etc which were turned into films, a TV programme and a radio show.
A former colleague of mine, Simon Cuff, was one of the doctors in the TV series.

Sorry! What am I talking about?? I see now you mentioned A Captain's Tale, not A Captain's Table. I wondered what that had to do with football!!!!

Hehe, it was a nice slice of cinema trivia anyhow, and a new title for me to look for. A Captain's Tale is tangental to football anyhow, using the Thomas Liption Trophy as an excuse for a fish-out-of-water tale by placing working class lads in an unfamiliar setting where they don't know which cutlery to use, or the etiquette etc.
