ANTHONY HUGHES

Sadly, yesterday the club learned of the passing of club stalwart Anthony Hughes. Anthony fulfilled many roles at the club over the decades and also represented the club on the Southern League Board leading to his election as chairman of the League and an FA Councillor.
Anthony was one of the best liked and respected servants of Merthyr football club and will be greatly missed.
The thoughts of everyone associated with the club are with Anthony's family.

Sad news. Condolences to his family. Merthyr Football Club through and through. His services to the club and Southern League football in general was immeasurable, even with his own health issues. Remember walking with him and his father Terry, from Penydarren to the club and watching his first game, during the 70’s.

Yes, I remember him coming to watch Merthyr Tydfil (then) as a young supporter. and his progress to duties at the club, two spells as secretary, board member etc. For years too he wrote the home match reports for the Wales on Sunday and Non - League Paper.
He also was in the pensions section when I was employed at the DWP a while back.
As chairman of the league, he took an active interest in all the clubs, always willing to help. He was one of the few people who gave such lengthy service to Merthyr FC.

Sad news indeed.

One of the good guys.

Martyr through and through.

Without people with a calibre like him we wouldn’t have a club.
