MERTHYR REACH THIRD SPOT. Empty MERTHYR REACH THIRD SPOT.

Merthyr 4 Basingstoke Town 1
Two goals from Ricardo Rees (both from spot-kicks) and two by Lewys Twamley, the second spectacular, saw Merthyr reach third in the table with a comprehensive win before 913 crowd.
3-1 at half-time after Bradley Wilson scored the Basingstoke penalty.
There might have been more goals but Merthyr seemed to ease off a little with the visitors trying to hit back after the break. Goalkeeper Will Fuller pulled off one good save. With Gethyn Hill and Olly Mehew out through injury, there were enforced changes and this victory kept up the fine record, showing the class of those selected,

Clinical again today the difference, (albeit with two pens) even being lighter up front, without Mehew and Hill and losing defender Rhodes so early on. Twamley’s second goal of his own, certainly matched the effort of Kieran Evans’s a while ago. That’s his third goal in very limited game time, fair play. Great attendance, especially after the festive period.
