Merthyr v Salisbury
Merthyr Town 2 Salisbury 1
What a performance and a win as Salisbury, league leaders, lost for just the second time of the term. It was backs to the wall in the late stages as Salisbury threw everything into the task.
Captain Matthew Harris started, back after a work trip to Italy. Nick Rhodes went off early, injured.
Gethyn Hill also started and did well.
A cracking goal from Keiran Evans on 19 minutes was equalled by a Harry Williams header after 39 minutes but Tom Handley put Merthyr ahead three minutes before the break.
The second half was a battling display from both sides, Merthyr were thwarted as they tried to incerease their score. Salisbury had a goal disallowed and fought every inch, But Merthyr came through with a stirring performance to end a lean spell at home.#
Attendance of 702 was good for a cold, foggy afternooon.

Talk about against all the odds?…. Taking on the league leaders, who had only lost one league game and were on a run of eight games unbeaten, along with our somewhat baffling home form, this was going to be a real tester, (although in recent seasons, we’ve always had the better of Salisbury.) Also, another reshuffle of the pack, with goal getter Lewis Powell absent, Alex John suspended and an early adjustment in defence, as Rhodes left the field injured. Difficult to pick man of the match, as everyone worked their socks off. Although he wasn’t on the scoresheet, Gethyn Hill, starting his first game of the season, was up there. His work rate with and off the ball was outstanding. What a goal by Kieran Evans. How haven’t we won a home league game since August? If only….. But, consolidates fourth position. Very good attendance too. Feels a lot better with so many positives recorded today.

Out on own Salisbury Manoeuvres
I think I have worked out why we won at home for the first time.
No Boz ( Sheffield) no Ownes ( Surrey) we must be the jinx.
Waiting for the orders from the Saint not to attend till season end.
