Re: MERTHYR v Weymouth
Sorry I couldn't get this on earlier, but the other half of my pseudonym came into play tonight.
Today’s team:
O.Davies;
Davies,Wright,McDonald,Tancock;
Evans,Patten;
Richards,Reffell,Compton;
McLaggon;
Subs:
Jenkins for McLaggon after about 66 minutes
Copp for Compton at the same time
Traylor for Richards also at the same time
Bowen
It was an unchanged starting eleven with Scott Barrow and Gavin Williams both suspended and Ryan Prosser still injured which meant Jason Bowen coming into the squad on the subs’ bench.
After about 3 minutes the first opportunity to score fell to Weymouth with a free kick given away by Curtis McDonald just outside the area. This was comfortably fielded by Oliver Davies and we went straight down the other end, with a 25-yard drive from Keyon Reffell coming back off the bar.
We took the lead after about 15 minutes when a long throw from Jack Compton on the left was headed on by Curtis McDonald for Ashley Evans fire an unstoppable shot into the top corner. About 5 minutes later Eliot Richards created a chance for Curtis McDonald still upfield following another long throw, but his header went some way over the bar.
Weymouth came close for about the first time after about 32 minutes with a shot from the right which was parried by Oliver Davies and the ball cleared. About a minute later some good build-up play down the right saw Adam Davies put the ball across to Kayne McLaggon in the goalmouth but the ball was smothered by the keeper.
A couple of minutes before the break a 25-yard shot from Weymouth’s Stuart Fleetwood went just wide.
1-0 was just about a fair scoreline at half time, with the Merthyr side looking in much better form than for most of the last two home games.
A couple of minutes after the break Kayne McLaggon used his strength to hold off a defender to set up Jack Compton to pull the ball back from the line on the left, but the keeper again dropped on the ball to keep it away from Keyon Reffell.
We were looking well set, but after about 53 minutes Keyon Reffell was shown a red card for an incident which I didn’t see as it was just after the ball had gone.
With 10 men we sat back then with even Kayne McLaggon dropping deep. After about 62 minutes Weymouth’s Stephane Zubar put a header over the bar from a corner, then with about 66 minutes gone we made a triple substitution, with Kyle Copp coming on to play on the left instead of Jack Compton, Corey Jenkins as striker instead of Kayne McLaggon, and Ian Traylor on the right instead of Eliot Richards. This gave us plenty of pace to counteract Weymouth’s man advantage, but after about 71 minutes they equalised with something of a soft goal – Stuart Fleetwood nipping in to get the ball between Jarrad Wright and Oliver Davies and lobbing it over the keeper into the empty net.
But after about 75 minutes all three substitutes combined when Kyle Copp did well to set Ian Traylor free down the right. He put the ball across the area for Corey Jenkins to be brought down for a penalty. After Weymouth had finished arguing about it, and with a couple of them trying to put him off, Kyle Copp kept a cool head to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot for his first Merthyr goal.
However, we couldn’t hold on for a famous victory, as Weymouth made their numerical advantage count when a cross came in from the right and Dean Evans was the extra man to head in at the far post.
Weymouth nearly won it a couple of minutes from the end with a shot from midfielder Billy Lowes, but from 20 yards it went inches wide of the post.
Well, with 11 men on the pitch we were looking good value to go on and win the game, but with only 10 for about the last 40 minutes a draw was not a bad result in the end. Man of the match for me was Ashley Evans for his non-stop work and a great goal. A mention for Kyle Copp, who not only started the move that led to the penalty but also finished it off from the spot.

Re: MERTHYR v Weymouth
The incident for which Keyon received his red card came about as a result of him being fouled by a Weymouth player it was ignored by the ref, Keyon then kicked back at him, the ref saw that though.

I understand that Kenyon lost it and I did see a back heel at the Weymouth player and yes right in front of the ref. anyone who has played the game might have done something similar in their playing days. However in my case if I did no one paid to come and see me and I was not paid to play, so my responsibility to stay on the field and fight for a result did not carry the same responsibility.
I know I am paranoid but we seem to be the prey for many officials and they do not need much of an excuse to blow that whistle and flash the cards. So we must be more savvy and play the officials as well as the opposition
