With one or two players rested, Oliver Davies made his debut in goal, and Gavin Williams started against Cinderford for the second time this season. It was probably a particularly good time to play Cinderford, as Lee Hartshorn was their only fit central defender, as they played with 3 at the back, and with leading scorer Gethyn Hill suspended they fielded Jaye Bowen as their main striker.

In the first minute Ian Traylor put over a good cross from the right but Kayne McLaggon and Eliot Richards were just unable to get anything on it. A couple of minutes later, a ball across the area from Keyon Reffell was hit first time by Gavin Williams, but some way wide.

We were having nearly all the possession, but with one or two wasted passes. Cinderford got in a shot on target after about 8 minutes, but it was comfortably saved by Oliver Davies at the near post.

The breakthrough came with a penalty after a long ball forward saw Kayne McLaggon do well to get to it before the keeper, only to be brought down by him just inside the area. After being booked, the keeper dived the wrong way as Ian Traylor fired home the penalty.

It was 2-0 after about 18 minutes, when Eliot Richards down the left and put the ball in to Kayne McLaggon just inside the area. He was able to pick his spot and curve the ball across the keeper and into the net. A minute later we had another chance when we broke forward from a Cinderford corner. Ian Traylor on the right put the ball across to Eliot Richards but he put his shot straight at the keeper. Another minute after that we had another chance when a Gavin Williams corner on the left was headed away to Eliot Richards and his first time shot came back off the bar.

The chances continued to come as we made it look almost embarrassingly easy, and after about 25 minutes, Richards, down the left, put the ball inside to McLaggon but his shot was blocked.

A flurry of goals then came, starting with 31 minutes gone when Kayne McLaggon skipped past three men down the right and put the ball to the near post for Eliot Richards to turn it into the net from close range. A couple of minutes later it was 4-0 when Scott Tancock played the ball in from the left to Gavin Williams on the edge of the area and he looped a shot over the keeper and under the bar. Two more minutes after that Cinderford pulled a goal back when we failed to get a meaningful challenge in on the edge of our area and the ball fell for Karnell Chambers to have the simple task of putting it into the net from 7 yards.

After what was to be Cinderford’s consolation goal the procession continued at the other end with the visitors slow to clear a ball allowing Ben Watkins to head it across to Kayne McLaggon whose shot was cleared off the line.

Cinderford then had almost their only other opportunity to score when Curtis McDonald presented the ball to midfielder Ban Hands. He ran forward and put a long range shot just over the bar.

But we scored again on the stroke of half time when Ian Traylor came a long way across from the right before combining with Eliot Richards to plant a left-foot shot wide of the keeper.

About a minute into the second half Ian Traylor put the ball across the goalmouth from the right, but it was just in front of Kayne McLaggon.

Cinderford practically presented us with the sixth goal after 55 minutes. With a free kick for offside in their own area they contrived to present the ball to Ian Traylor with the ball on the left of it and he passed it across for Kayne McLaggon to tap into the net.

Gethin Jones then came on for Curtis McDonald to get a bit of game time, and couple of minutes later James Bloom made his first appearance of the season, replacing Kayne McLaggon. He went to left back, with Scott Tancock moving across to the right and Ben Watkins going into midfield. Initially Keyon Reffell went up front, but then dropped back again with Gavin Williams in attack.

There was a strange incident after 72 minutes. The Cinderford keeper had been showing signs of carrying some sort of leg injury, and with us on the attack he suddenly went down with no-one near him. Play was allowed to continue, with Eliot Richards going clear down the left with the keeper lying on his back on the edge of the six-yard area. Richards then cut inside and from a narrow angle put his shot against the post and back into play with no-one near it. The referee then stopped play for the keeper to receive treatment.

From then on we played well within ourselves, and that combined with Cinderford now packing their penalty area, presumably content just to keep the score down, we were unable to add to the lead. We failed to make the most of several openings, most of them involving Ian Traylor, with the final ball often finding one of the defenders. The best of them came about 3 minutes from the end when the ball broke for Gavin Williams and he squared it across for Ian Traylor on the right of the area, but he failed to get his hat-trick as the shot was too near the keeper who was able to block it with his leg.

So, probably the easiest game we’ll have all season as we took advantage of the position Cinderford found themselves in. Man of the match for me was Ian Traylor, narrowly ahead of Kayne McLaggon. It was good to see Gavin Williams in the first half dictating play from the back just like old times. He got a full 90 minutes under his belt, plus we were able to let Scott Barrow, Ashley Evans and Ryan Prosser sit the game out on the bench – although I suspect the latter might have fancied his chances of a goal or two today! Oliver Davies wasn’t really tested, with just one easy shot to save, being left rather exposed for Cinderford’s goal. .

As it turns out, yes. Five clubs in our division went out of the Trophy today, with two more involved in replays, but none of them were scheduled to play each other on 12th November.

When is the draw for the next round??
I was at the Colwyn Bay v Witton Albion FA Trophy game today, which resulted in a 1-1 draw, which is to replayed on Tuesday.
I would absolutely love a Merthyr v Colwyn FA trophy match.

Are Colwyn still struggling? Saw them a few times @ Solihull

I think the draw is still regionalised up to and including the First Round Proper, so we'd need to get past that stage to meet Colwyn Bay (or Wrexham).

Colwyn bay were playing in the conference north as you know, and then they have had two back to back relegations in the last two seasons. So they now play one league below the Martyrs, the Northen Premier league first division north. They are currently holding their own in that division and are in 10th position now. Things seemed to have settled a bit for them. So hopefully they can push for a play off spot this season.

Anyway with regards to this draw for the next round in the FA TRophy? Is there some kind of secret? Something that we're all not allowed to know about? What I mean is the draw was meant to be yesterday wasn't it? I can't find any info about it anywhere.

As far as I know the draw is tomorrow (Monday). I think it's usually on the Monday, the same as it is for the early rounds of the FA Cup.
