AGM Tonight
A full report on tonight's AGM will appear in the next issue of the club's Newsletter, but here are a few highlights. In fact there's not a great deal to report, and there were only, I think, 43 members present - possibly a reflection on the fact that things are going well for the club at the moment!
Supporters were urged to be patient during the building work that is already well under way.
Derek Dowling was thanked for his services to the club in his time as a Board member.
A long list was given of the very many functions carried out at the club by volunteers.
It was mentioned that Rob Price's contract as Viable & Vibrant Places Project Implementation Manager was due to end at the end of June, and it was the Board's opinion that he should continue in the post.
A tribute was paid to the officers of Merthyr Tydfil CBC for their help over the last 5 years.
Sadly, the familiar figure at these meetings of John Strand was missing due to ill health, so Phil Mack presented the Secretary's Annual Report and Paul Donovan presented the accounts.
Not much to report on this - it was pointed out that the period covered was up to last August, so was basically relating to last season. Therefore the figure of bar profits mentioned in the account had been affected by the number of games played at Cinderford. Things were expected to be better in the current year.
The important thing was that the club was breaking even. It was expected in the current year (up to next August) that money would start to be put aside towards the future cost of the 3G pitch renewal. The take up of pitch hire was improving.
Soccalot had been very successful in raising money.
The lengthiest part of the proceedings concerned the resolution that employees of the club should not serve on the club board. It was emphasised that this resolution was not aimed in any way at any current board members but was a point of principal that it was felt should settled. After some debate on the ins-and-outs the resolution was narrowly voted through.
There followed a question and answer session, but apart from some complaints about the occasional lack of information filtering down from the Board onto this Forum, and a query on the Board's progress on considering a request for testimonial games for players who have made over 300 appearances for the club, there was very little asked.
The meeting only lasted about 45 minutes, and as I said at the beginning, probably reflects the successful situation at the club at the moment.

I'd agree that the low turnout should be seen as positive sign, indicating that Society members are very satisfied that the affairs of the club are in good hands and excellent progress is being made.
