Re: Bridgwater v MERTHYR
May i ask why are there so many youth players on the bench with no dis respect to them that in an important game like this after a weeks rest we cannot field a more experienced side after letting players go before the season started

Re: Bridgwater v MERTHYR
Well, we have got a first team squad of 20 players. That would allow for 11 plus 5 substitutes and 4 unable to play or left out.scamp wrote:May i ask why are there so many youth players on the bench with no dis respect to them that in an important game like this after a weeks rest we cannot field a more experienced side after letting players go before the season started
We've got 7 unable to play today. It would obviously be good to have cover for that many players out, but while I don't know the ins-and-outs of the playing budget, there must be a limit on how many we can have in the squad.

My information was that Rewbury and Keddle were unavailable, Marcus Griffiths injured in training, Ryan Newman has broken his shoulder, and Andrew Thomas was touch and go as to whether he would play. And there was uncertainty on Thursday about Leek so good to see him involved and with Nathan back. These are the problems faced when it comes to non-league football.

With seven players out and a week off and the season just starting is some cause for concern less there is a flu epidemic or likewise going through the club:cry:

With Alun Griffiths also injured and Aaron Cornwall, rightly or wrongly, out on loan.Tim Drummond wrote:My information was that Rewbury and Keddle were unavailable, Marcus Griffiths injured in training, Ryan Newman has broken his shoulder, and Andrew Thomas was touch and go as to whether he would play. And there was uncertainty on Thursday about Leek so good to see him involved and with Nathan back. These are the problems faced when it comes to non-league football.
Shortwood United are 3-0 up already in their FA Cup tie at Aylesbury, so whatever the result at Bridgwater it's looking like another trip to Cinderford for us on Tuesday night.

Re: Bridgwater v MERTHYR
Yes, I am sure players were released because of the budget. And it can't be easy at present with home games being played at Cinderford with the attendant loss of money from The Candac Suite plus gates down by at least 100 and with the club also losing money by laying on a bus for home games.
Yes, I forgot to factor in Alun Griffiths and Aaron Cornwall. I don't know if the latter will return as I remember Jamie Thomas, Lewis Hitchcock and Jason Welsh all going "on loan..."

The fans have to trust the decisions made by the management rather than complaining about the problem, if there are no sponsors/supporters who are prepared to pay the wages of the players that were released from the squad.scamp wrote:.........after a weeks rest we cannot field a more experienced side after letting players go before the season started

1-1 half time. Traylors goal a blaster from a narrow angle apparently. Look forward to Old Sods report!

Re: Bridgwater v MERTHYR
Of course, if we had a bigger squad and there were few players injured etc, some players would not be involved at all on match day and would want to move. Bridgwater today also have some players missing.

And I understand too that already one of the Merthyr players receives his wages via sponsorship.

Now Aylesbury 1 Shortwood 4. Still looks as if we'll definitely be going to Cinderford on Tuesday night.MattMartyr87 wrote:I hope we can avoid a replay. Killed us last season! Come on lads!
One good thing about a replay is that we'd be able to play the league game against Shortwood when we're back at Penydarren Park.
