11th December 1973 - The game's off "We can't find our coach"

Merthyr Tydfil reserves' match against Pembroke Borough was postponed after the Town lost their team coach.

The Welsh League game - booked to kick off at 2pm - was called off at noon with Merthyr still looking for their mini-bus. Merthyr now face a fine of up to £100 for postponing the match.

The driver was supposed to collect the coach from a garage at 10am for the 200-mile round trip to Pembroke. But when he got to the garage there was no coach.

"We didn't know what to do. We searched for it everywhere," said the Merthyr chairman Mr. Maldwyn Davies.

"The coach eventually turned up at the back of the garage, although we were told to pick it up on the forecourt" he said.

I am sure it wasnt funny at the time but I have to admit I did laugh reading this.

Bet the ginger monster was driving the coach!!

Nostalgia reigns......platform shoes....lamp chop side burns...noddy holder braces....and that was just the women....don't remember it myself as Merthyr town had only been in the recession for 43 years at that point.....most of the current players weren't born....two television channels that ended at 1am with a test card and a girl chalking oxo.....good old days? Selective memory....Merthyr town have lost many a coach and manager since....boz 1964
