Merthyr Town have signed Garyn Preen from Salisbury City. 21 year old Garyn was born in Abergavenny and was with Southampton as a junior, before signing for Burton Albion where he made 2 cup appearances.

Garyn signed for Neath in summer of 2011, before joining Salisbury City in summer of 2012.
Garyn made his final appearance in their FA Cup defeat on Saturday against Hayes & Yeading. Garyn will hopefully be available for tomorrow's match at Clevedon Town, provided international clearance is received in time.

Looks a promising signing.

WELSH winger Garyn Preen has signed for Merthyr Town and is set to make his debut at Clevedon Town tonight (7.45pm).

Tredegar-born Preen, who celebrates his 21st birthday later this month, is a former Cardiff City and Southampton youth player who has played senior football for Burton Albion, Neath and Salisbury City.

Preen’s debut for Burton came in a Carling Cup tie against Cardiff City at the start of 2010-11. He went on after 73 minutes in Burton’s 4-1 defeat.

Wales Under-17 and Under-19 international Preen is expected be in Merthyr’s squad for tonight’s Southern League encounter.

International clearance is needed because he is moving from English club Salisbury and Merthyr expect that to be granted in time.

Micky Bell is Clevedon’s manager and his assistant is former Cardiff player Paul McLoughlin, who made 49 first-team appearances for the Bluebirds during the 1980s.

Former Bristol City winger Scott Murray will be in Clevedon’s team this evening.

Merthyr return to League South and West Division action for the first time in nine fixtures, having been playing FA Cup and FA Trophy matches. Their last league match was a 2-0 win at Mangotsfield Town on September 3.

The Martyrs are now out of the FA Cup, having suffered their first defeat of the season at AFC Totton in Hampshire, and play back-to-back league fixtures, with tonight’s game followed by a trip to Bishop’s Cleeve in Gloucestershire on Saturday.

Merthyr then play three successive home games at Penydarren Park, against Yate Town in the League Cup next Tuesday evening (7.45pm), Abingdon United in a league match on Saturday, October 20 (3pm) and then Paulton Rovers the following Tuesday

Player of the round honour for former Bristol City star Scott Murray
The Bristol Post

SCOTT Murray will this evening be honoured for winning the prestigious FA Cup player of the round award.

Clevedon Town's former Bristol City star was crowned the FA Cup's player of the first qualifying round in an online vote after he scored four goals in his side's 5-0 win over Sherborne Town.

The 38-year-old polled a massive 75 per cent of the vote and will now be invited to the FA Cup final in May as a guest of the FA and sponsors Budweiser.

But first he will receive a presentation ahead of Clevedon's Southern League Division One South & West game against Merthyr Town this evening.

Clevedon chairman Steve Spicer said: "This is the first time a Clevedon Town player has won this prestigious award, with Scott being chosen as the best player from more than 100 matches all over the country. It's a fantastic achievement."

Anyone who attends this evening's match between Clevedon and Merthyr at the Hand Stadium (7.45pm) and mentions, at the turnstiles, that they saw this in The Post will be entitled to half-price entry.
